Ο Άγιος Νεανίσκος έζησε στα χρόνια του ηγεμόνα Αλεξανδρείας Μαξίμου, του οποίου η δούλη κατάγγειλε τον σοφότατο και ωραίο αθλητή του Χριστού Νεανίσκο. Ο ηγεμόνας τον βασάνισε ποικιλλοτρόπως, για να αρνηθεί τον Χριστό, αλλά όταν είδε ότι δεν μπορούσε να το καταφέρει, διέταξε να θανατωθεί. Όταν τον οδηγούσαν στον τόπο της εκτέλεσης, μαζί με το πλήθος που τον ακολουθούσε, ήταν και η δούλη που τον πρόδωσε. Τότε ο Νεανίσκος της έκανε νόημα να τον πλησιάσει, και όταν τον πλησίασε της έδωσε το χρυσό δαχτυλίδι του και της είπε: «Σε ευχαριστώ, γυναίκα, διότι με την προδοσία σου έγινες πρόξενος σ' εμένα τέτοιων αγαθών». Όταν έφτασαν στον τόπο της καταδίκης, προσευχήθηκε και στη συνέχεια τον αποκεφάλισαν.
