Ο Άγιος Κελεστίνος, άνηκε στην ηρωική φάλαγγα της σταυρικής πορείας του Ιησού προς τον Γολγοθά. Βάδισε και ο ίδιος με θαυμαστή καρτερία το δρόμο του μαρτυρίου. Διακαής του πόθος, ήταν η γρηγορότερη επικράτηση της αληθινής θρησκείας. Ο πόθος του αυτός τον ώθησε να κηρύττει με παρρησία το Ευαγγέλιο της σωτηρίας και να αγρεύει ψυχές. Οι διαρκείς αγώνες του ενάντια στο ψεύδος στις αιρέσεις και τα μιαρά είδωλα εξόργισαν τούς ιερείς των ειδώλων. Ομολόγησε με νεανικό σθένος την πίστη του στον αρχηγό της ζωής και του θανάτου και με θαυμαστή καρτερία υπέμεινε τα διάφορα βασανιστήρια, ευχαριστώντας και δοξολογώντας το Θεό πού τον αξίωσε και εκείνον του μαρτυρίου. Εξοργισμένοι οι σκληροί βασανιστές, καθώς δεν μπόρεσαν να ξεριζώσουν από την ψυχή του το Χριστό, τον θανάτωσαν με πυρακτωμένο σίδερο.
