Ο Άγιος Φίρμος έζησε στα χρόνια του βασιλιά Μαξιμιανού, το έτος 299. Συνελήφθη διότι ομολογούσε τον Χριστό και οδηγήθηκε στον Μάγο (ίσως το κύριο όνομα του ηγεμόνα), και επειδή δεν πείστηκε να θυσιάσει στα είδωλα, πρώτα τον γύμνωσαν και τον μαστίγωσαν με μαστίγια από νεύρα βοδιών, έπειτα τον κρέμασαν και ξέσχισαν τις σάρκες του και με ξυράφι έκοψαν τη ράχη του. Κατόπιν εξάρθρωσαν τα μέλη του και κατέσφαξαν με μαχαίρια την κοιλιά του, τα πόδια και τα χέρια του. Επειδή όμως ο Φίρμος παρέμεινε σταθερός στη χριστιανική του πίστη τον αποκεφάλισαν.
