Ο Άγιος Ολβιανός ήταν από τους επισκόπους, που ποίμαναν το ποίμνιο τους με πολλή στοργή και επιμέλεια. Συγχρόνως υπεράσπιζε την πίστη του Ευαγγελίου κατά των προσβολών των Ιουδαίων και των ειδωλολατρών. Στο διωγμό, κατά της Εκκλησίας, που έκανε ο αυτοκράτορας Διοκλητιανός, ο επίσκοπος Ανέων Ολβιανός συνελήφθη και μετά από ανάκριση, υποβλήθηκε σε σειρά σκληρών βασανιστηρίων. Αλλά όλα αυτά δεν κατάφεραν να νικήσουν τη θερμότητα του ζήλου του. Τελευταία τον έριξαν μαζί με τους μαθητές του μέσα στη φωτιά, όπου βρήκαν το θάνατο, και αξιώθηκαν του μαρτυρικού στεφάνου.
