Είναι άγνωστο σε ποια εποχή έζησε ο Όσιος Νικηφόρος. Το εις αυτόν σύντομο υπόμνημα του Λαυριωτικού Κώδικος Ι 70 (φ. 239) αναφέρει απλώς ότι αυτός, λόγω της ενάρετης και θεάρεστης πολιτείας του αναδείχθηκε ηγούμενος της πολυάνθρωπης μονής της Εφάψεως και κοιμήθηκε με ειρήνη. (Ορισμένοι Συναξαριστές μαζί του, αναφέρουν και τη μνήμη κάποιου Οσίου Αγαπίου).
