Ο Όσιος Μιχαίας του Ραντονέζ ήταν ένας από τους πρώτους υποτακτικούς του Αγίου Σεργίου του Ραντονέζ και έζησε μαζί του στο ίδιο κελλί. Κάτω από την καθοδήγησή του έφθασε σε μεγάλο βαθμό πνευματικής τελειώσεως. Για την πραότητα της ψυχής του και την αγωνιστικότητα της καρδιάς του, εμφανίσθηκε και σε αυτόν η Υπεραγία Θεοτόκος. Μια φορά, όταν ο Άγιος Σέργιος είχε ολοκληρώσει τον πρωινό κανόνα της προσευχής, κάθισε κάτω για λίγο, προκειμένου να ξεκουραστεί, αλλά ξαφνικά είπε στον υποτακτικό του: «Να είσαι έτοιμος, παιδί μου, θα έχουμε μια θαυμάσια επίσκεψη».
