Ο Άγιος Κοδράτος έζησε στα χρόνια των βασιλέων Δεκίου (249 - 251 μ.Χ.) και Ουαλεριανού (251 - 259 μ.Χ.) στη Νικομήδεια. Συνελήφθη σαν Χριστιανός, οδηγήθηκε στον ανθύπατο Περίνιο και όταν τον ανέκρινε, ο Κοδράτος, ομολόγησε με θάρρος ότι είναι χριστιανός. Τότε τον άπλωσαν κατά γης, τον μαστίγωσαν με μαστίγια από νεύρα βοδιών και αιμόφυρτο τον έριξαν στη φυλακή.
