Οι Άγιοι Μάρτυρες Επίμαχος και Γορδιανός κατάγονταν από την Ρώμη και άθλησαν επί αυτοκράτορα Δεκίου (249-251 μ.Χ.). Συνελήφθησαν και ο άρχοντας τους πίεζε ν' αρνηθούν τον Χριστό και να θυσιάσουν στα είδωλα. Επειδή όμως έμειναν ακλόνητοι στην πίστη τους, βασανίστηκαν σκληρά και κατόπιν αποκεφαλίστηκαν, παίρνοντας έτσι τα στεφάνια της αθλήσεως. Τα ιερά λείψανά τους ενταφιάσθηκαν στον ίδιο τάφο και σημαντικό μέρος αυτών φυλάσσεται στο Αββαείο των Βενεδεκτίνων στο Κέμπτον της Βαυαρίας στη Γερμανία. Η Σύναξή τους γίνεται στον Ναό του Άγιου Μάρτυρα Στρατονίκου. Η μνήμη τους επαναλαμβάνεται στις 31 Οκτωβρίου.
