Ο Άγιος Γεώργιος (Βσεβολόντοβιτς) γεννήθηκε το έτος 1189 μ.Χ. στην Ρωσία και ήταν υιός του μεγάλου πρίγκιπα Βσέβολοντ. Διαδέχθηκε τον αδελφό του Κωνσταντίνο και έγινε μέγας ηγεμόνας του Βλαδιμίρ και της Σουζδαλίας, λίγο πριν την μάχη του Κάλκα, κατά την οποία οι Μογγόλοι του Μπατού Χαν κατέστρεψαν τον Ρωσικό στρατό. Η βασιλεία του διέρρευσε μέσα από εμφύλιους σπαραγμούς και αγώνες, καθώς και πολέμους κατά των Μογγόλων, οι οποίοι είχαν εισβάλλει στην Ρωσία και λεηλάτησαν την Μόσχα, τη Σουζδαλία και το Βλαδιμίρ. Πράγματι, το έτος 1223 μ.Χ., τα μογγολικά στρατεύματα εισέβαλαν στην χώρα της Ρωσίας, νίκησαν τους διαιρεμένους Ρώσους ηγεμόνες και επέστρεψαν στην Ασία.
