Οι Άγιοι επτά Μάρτυρες Φιλόθεος, Υπερέχιος, Άβιβος, Ιουλιανός, Ρωμανός, Ιάκωβος και Παρηγόριος μόλις έγιναν στρατιώτες του Χριστού, με παρρησία και θάρρος στηλίτευσαν την πλάνη της ειδωλολατρείας. Για τον λόγο αυτό συνελήφθησαν από τους ειδωλολάτρες και υποβλήθηκαν σε φρικώδη βασανιστήρια. Τέλος, τους κρέμασαν και διατρύπησαν τις τίμιες κεφαλές αυτών με σιδερένια καρφιά, ενώ οι Άγιοι σε κάθε νέο κτύπημα ομολογούσαν «είμαι Χριστιανός». Έτσι οι Άγιοι επτά Μάρτυρες παρέδωσαν τις ψυχές τους στον Θεό και έλαβαν το στέφανο του μαρτυρίου.
