Οι Άγιοι Οκτώ Μάρτυρες, όταν απεστάλη απόφαση από τον ασεβή και παράνομο βασιλέα Ιουλιανό (361 - 363 μ.Χ.), που διέταζε τους πιστούς να αρνηθούν τον Χριστό και να προσκυνούν τους θεούς των Εθνικών, όχι μόνο δεν υπάκουσαν να κάνουν αυτό, αλλά και με μεγάλο θάρρος περιέρχονταν όλη την πόλη και έλεγαν με μεγάλη φωνή: «Να τιμάτε και να λατρεύετε τον Χριστό ως τον μόνο αληθινό Θεό. Και οι θεοί που δεν δημιούργησαν τον ουρανό και την γη, ας καταστραφούν μαζί με όσους τους λατρεύουν». Εξαιτίας αυτής της ενέργειάς τους συνελήφθησαν από τους ειδωλολάτρες και παραδόθηκαν στην φυλακή. Κατηγορούμενοι από τον Ιουλιανό και με διαταγή εκείνου πρόθυμα αποδέχθηκαν το μαρτύριο. Αποκεφαλίσθηκαν, ανεβαίνοντας προς τον Χριστό, τον Οποίο είχαν ποθήσει από την βρεφική τους ηλικία και χωρίς να Τον αρνηθούν έλαβαν βραβείο αθανασίας.
