O Άγιος Ηρωδίων, ανήκε στο κύκλο των εβδομήκοντα Αποστόλων του Κυρίου. Μετά την ανάληψη του Χριστού, ο Άγιος αφοσιώθηκε στη διάδοση του Ευαγγελίου και υπήρξε συνεργάτης των 12 Αποστόλων και ιδιαίτερα του Απόστολου Πέτρου. Μετά το μαρτυρικό θάνατο του απόστολου Ανδρέα του Πρωτόκλητου, στην εκκλησία της Πάτρας επίσκοπος έγινε ο Ηρωδίων. Από τη νέα του θέση έδειξε όλες τις αρετές πού τον κοσμούσαν. Για τη χριστιανική του όμως δράση, συνελήφθη από τούς Ιουδαίους και τούς ειδωλολάτρες. Αφού τον έδειραν άγρια και τον λιθοβόλησαν, στο τέλος τον έσφαξαν με τον πιο ωμό τρόπο. Έτσι με μαρτυρικό τρόπο επισφράγισε την πίστη του στο Σωτήρα και Λυτρωτή του Κύριο.
