Ο Προφήτης Ανανί έζησε στα χρόνια του βασιλιά Ιούδα (955 π.Χ.). Ο βασιλιάς Ασά με τη βοήθεια του Θεού, είχε στην αρχή αποκρούσει νικηφόρα την εναντίον του επιδρομή του βασιλιά της Συρίας. Κατόπιν όμως ο Ασά συνθηκολόγησε με τον βασιλιά της Συρίας και του έστειλε χρυσό και ασήμι, για να τον βοηθήσει στον πόλεμο εναντίον του βασιλείου του Ισραήλ. Τότε ο Προφήτης Ανανί, παρουσιάστηκε στον Ασά και του έκανε δριμύτατη παρατήρηση (Β' Παραλειπ. ιστ' 7-10). Ο Ασά οργισμένος, φυλάκισε τον Προφήτη. Τελικά όμως αυτός απεβίωσε ειρηνικά.
