Ο Άγιος Νικήτας καταγόταν από την Ήπειρο και έγινε Ιερομόναχος στο Άγιον Όρος, και συγκεκριμένα στη Σκήτη της Αγίας Άννας και κατόπιν στη Μονή του Αγίου Παντελεήμονα (Ρώσικη). Τον κατέλαβε ο πόθος του μαρτυρίου και γύριζε τα χωριά γύρω από τις Σέρρες και τη Δράμα, κηρύττοντας τον Χριστό σαν αληθινό Θεό και τον Μωάμεθ σαν πλάνο. Συνελήφθη από τους Τούρκους και φυλακίστηκε στις Σέρρες. Κατόπιν υποβλήθηκε σε φρικτά βασανιστήρια, όπως όσφρηση φωτιάς από τη μύτη, ακάνθινο στεφάνι στο κεφάλι, καλαμένιες ακίδες στα νύχια του και κάψιμο στα απόκρυφα μέλη του. Ο Νικήτας όμως, με θαυμαστή σταθερότητα, συνεχώς ομολογούσε την πίστη του στο Χριστό. Τελικά, στις 19 Φεβρουαρίου 1806 μ.Χ. τον κρέμασαν και έτσι δέχτηκε το στεφάνι της αφθαρσίας.
