Οι Συναξαριστές σημειώνουν ότι οι Άγιοι Μάρτυρες Λέων και Παρηγόριος συνελήφθησαν στα Πάταρα της Λυκίας. Πρώτος συνελήφθη ο Άγιος Παρηγόριος, ο οποίος μαρτύρησε διά πολλών και ποικίλων βασάνων. Ο Άγιος Λέων προσευχόταν στον τόπο, όπου έριξαν το λείψανο του Αγίου Παρηγορίου και έκλαιγε για τον θάνατο του αγαπημένου του φίλου και Μάρτυρα, επιθυμώντας να ακολουθήσει και αυτός την οδό του μαρτυρίου. Και η ευκαιρία βρέθηκε.
