Η Αγία Γενεβιέβη (Γενοβέφα) γεννήθηκε, κατά την παράδοση, περί το 419 μ.Χ. στην πόλη Ναντέρν, που βρίσκεται κοντά στο Παρίσι. Από μικρή ηλικία, με τη χάρη του Θεού, ένιωσε στην καρδιά της τη μοναχική κλήση. Στην καλλιέργεια αυτού του εσωτερικού πόθου, συνετέλεσε και ο πνευματικός της σύνδεσμος με τον Άγιο Γερμανό της Ωξέρρης (378 - 448 μ.Χ.). Μετά την κοίμηση των γονέων της εκάρη μοναχή από τον Επίσκοπο της πόλεως των Παρισίων και έφθασε σε πνευματικά ύψη ασκήσεως και τελειότητας. Η Οσία Γενεβιέβη κοιμήθηκε με ειρήνη σε ηλικία 93 ετών. Ο Ναός των Αγίων Αποστόλων των Παρισίων, στο οποίο αποτέθηκε το ιερό λείψανό της, έλαβε το όνομά της. Είναι πολιούχος των Παρισίων.
