Ο Όσιος Πέτρος «ὁ ἐν τὴ Ἀτρώα» (κατ' ἄλλους «ὁ ἐν τὴ Ἀγρέα») έζησε στα χρόνια του βασιλιά Νικηφόρου του Α' (802 - 811 μ.Χ.) και Σταυρακίου (784 - 806 μ.Χ.). Καταγόταν από την Ασία και από νεαρή ηλικία είχε κλήση στη μοναχική ζωή. Πήγε στην Ατρώα της Βιθυνίας, όπου πέρασε τη ζωή του με αυστηρότατη άσκηση και απεβίωσε ειρηνικά.
