Ο Άγιος αυτός συνελήφθη από τους ειδωλολάτρες της Αλεξανδρείας, επειδή με ιδιαίτερο θάρρος κήρυττε τον Χριστό, και αφού τον στεφάνωσαν με ακάνθινο στεφάνι, τον χτυπούσαν στο πρόσωπο και τον τριγύριζαν αλυσοδεμένο στους δρόμους της πόλης. Υπέστη και άλλα βασανιστήρια, τελικά με διαταγή του άρχοντα, αποκεφαλίστηκε και έτσι έλαβε το αμάραντο στεφάνι της αιώνιας δόξας.
