Οἱ Ἅγιοι Μάρτυρες Ζήνων καὶ Ζηνᾶς κατάγονταν ἀπὸ τὴ Φιλαδέλφεια τῆς Ἀραβίας καὶ ἄθλησαν ἐπὶ τῆς βασιλείας Μαξιμιανοῦ (286 – 305 μ.Χ.). Ὁ μὲν Ζήνων ἦταν στρατιώτης, ὁ δὲ Ζηνᾶς δοῦλός του. Ἐπιθυμώντας νὰ ζήσει κατὰ Χριστὸν ζωή, διεμοίρασε στοὺς φτωχοὺς τὰ ὑπάρχοντά του, ἀπελευθέρωσε τοὺς δούλους του, καί, ἀφοῦ προσῆλθε ἐνώπιον τοῦ ἡγεμόνος Μαξίμου, τὸν ἔλεγξε γιὰ τὴν ἀπιστία αὐτοῦ. Ὀργισθεῖς ὁ ἡγεμόνας, τὸν συνέλαβε καὶ τὸν ἐνέκλεισε στὴ φυλακὴ μὲ τὸν οἰκέτη του Ζηνᾶ. Μετὰ ἀπὸ σκληρὰ βασανιστήρια, ἔδωσε ἐντολὴ καὶ ἀπέκοψαν τὶς κεφαλὲς αὐτῶν.
