Ὁ Ἅγιος Ἱερομάρτυς Εὐσέβιος ἔζησε κατὰ τὸν 4ο αἰώνα μ.Χ. καὶ ἦταν Ἐπίσκοπος τῶν Σαμοσάτων στὴν Κομμαγηνὴ τῆς Συρίας. Διακρίθηκε γιὰ τοὺς ἀγῶνές του κατὰ τῶν αἱρετικῶν Ἀρειανῶν καὶ ἐξορίσθηκε γιὰ τὰ ὀρθόδοξα φρονήματά του ἀπὸ τὸν ἀρειανίζοντα αὐτοκράτορα Οὐάλεντα στὶς παρὰ τὸ Δούναβη χῶρες. Μετὰ τὸ θάνατο τοῦ Οὐάλεντος (378 μ.Χ.) ἐπανῆλθε στὴν Ἐπισκοπή του καὶ ἐξακολούθησε τὸν ἀγώνα του γιὰ τὴν Ὀρθόδοξη πίστη. Ἀφοῦ ἐχειροτόνησε πολλοὺς Ἐπισκόπους πρὸς καταπολέμηση τῶν αἱρέσεων, μεταξὺ τῶν ὁποίων καὶ τὸν Μάρη, Ἐπίσκοπο τῆς ἀρειανίζουσας πόλεως Δολιχῆς, ἐφονεύθηκε διὰ κεράμου ποὺ ἔρριψε ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς του αἱρετικὴ γυναίκα.
