Ο Όσιος Φαντίνος καταγόταν από την Καλαβρία της Ιταλίας. Ο πατέρας του ονομαζόταν Γεώργιος, η δε μητέρα του Βρυαίνη. Από μικρός αφοσιώθηκε στην υπηρεσία της πίστης και ήταν τόσο ενάρετος και μορφωμένος, ώστε να τον παρακολουθούν και πολλοί μαθητές, που τους δίδασκε την έμπρακτη ευσέβεια. Σε ηλικία 60 χρονών, αφού πήρε δύο από τους μαθητές του, τον Βιτάλιο και τον Νικηφόρο, πήγε στην Πελοπόννησο, οπού εγκαταστάθηκε για λίγο καιρό στην Κόρινθο και έφερε πολλές ψυχές στη Σωτηρία. Κατόπιν επισκέφθηκε την Αθήνα, όπου προσκύνησε στον ναό της Θεοτόκου. Έπειτα πήγε στη Λάρισα και από κει στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Εδώ έμεινε οκτώ ολόκληρα χρόνια υπηρετώντας το Ευαγγέλιο και απεβίωσε ειρηνικά υπέργηρος το 974 μ.Χ.
