Η Οσία Ανθούσα έζησε στα χρόνια του βασιλιά Ουαλεριανού (253-259) και καταγόταν από την Σελεύκεια της Συρίας. Ήταν κόρη πλούσιων ειδωλολατρών γονέων, του Αντωνίνου και της Μαρτυρίας (Μαρίας). Επιθυμώντας να δει τον διδάσκοντα επίσκοπο Αθανάσιο στην Ταρσό της Κιλικίας, έπεισε τη μητέρα της να μεταβεί εκεί μαζί με δύο υπηρέτες της, τον Χαρίσιμο και τον Νεόφυτο, με την πρόφαση ότι θα δει την τροφό της. Όταν βρήκε τον Αθανάσιο, βαπτίσθηκε απ' αυτόν και εκάρη μοναχή. Κατόπιν αποσύρθηκε στην έρημο και εκεί, αφού για 23 ολόκληρα χρόνια έζησε ασκητικά, απεβίωσε ειρηνικά.
