Ο Όσιος Δίος καταγόταν από την Αντιόχεια της Συρίας, και έζησε στα χρόνια του μεγάλου Θεοδοσίου. Ήταν διακεκριμένος για τη θεολογική του πολυμάθεια και για την ανυπόκριτη ευσέβεια και εγκράτεια. Σε ηλικία μάλιστα 35 ετών, τόσο πολύ είχε εξαπλωθεί η φήμη της αρετής του, που από παντού έρχονταν ν' ακούσουν τις πολύτιμες συμβουλές του. Μετά από χρόνια, τον προσκάλεσε ο Πατριάρχης Αττικός (406 - 425 μ.Χ.) στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και τον χειροτόνησε ιερέα. Τα Ιερατικά του καθήκοντα, επετέλεσε με πολύ ζήλο και ακρίβεια. Ήταν στους ενορίτες του, πρότυπο Ιερού και φιλόστοργου πνευματικού πατέρα και οικογενειακού συμβούλου. Στην Κωνσταντινούπολη ίδρυσε και μοναστήρι. Κάποτε αρρώστησε βαριά, που έφτασε μέχρι τα πρόθυρα του θανάτου. Σώθηκε όμως από θαύμα. Τελικά πέθανε ειρηνικά, αφού διατήρησε μέχρι την τελευταία του πνοή το πυρ της ευσέβειας και της στοργής για τις ψυχές του ποιμνίου του.
