Ὁ Ἅγιος Νικήτας, ὁ Ὁμολογητής, εἶναι ἄγνωστος στοὺς Συναξαριστὲς καὶ τὰ Μηναῖα. Τὸ ὄνομά του ἀναφέρεται στοὺς Λαυριωτικοὺς Κώδικες μὲ Ἀκολουθία αὐτοῦ, ἀπὸ τὴν ὁποία ἐξάγεται ὅτι ὁ Ἅγιος ἦταν Ἐπίσκοπος Χαλκηδόνος, μεταξὺ τῶν ἐτῶν 726 καὶ 775 μ.Χ., καὶ ἔζησε κατὰ τοὺς χρόνους τῆς εἰκονομαχίας καὶ ἀναδείχθηκε Ὁμολογητὴς γιὰ τοὺς ὑπὲρ τῶν ἱερῶν εἰκόνων ἀγῶνες του. Ἐνδέχεται μάλιστα νὰ παραιτήθηκε ἀπὸ τὸν ἐπισκοπικὸ θρόνο τῆς Χαλκηδόνος καὶ νὰ ἀποσύρθηκε σὲ κάποια μονὴ τῆς Παλαιστίνης, γιὰ νὰ ἐπιδοθεῖ ἀποκλειστικὰ σὲ ἀσκητικοὺς ἀγώνες.
