Ο Άγιος Μαρίνος ο Γέρων ήταν από την Ταρσό της Κιλικίας και έζησε στα χρόνια του Διοκλητιανού (284 - 304 μ.Χ.). Συνελήφθη διότι ήταν χριστιανός και οδηγήθηκε στον άρχοντα του τόπου Λυσία, ο όποιος, αφού δεν μπόρεσε να επαναφέρει τον Μαρίνο στην ειδωλολατρία, με διάφορα σκληρά βασανιστήρια, τελικά τον αποκεφάλισε.
