Ο Όσιος Σαβίνος διεκατέχετο από πολλές αρετές και γι' αυτό τον λόγο του είχε ζητηθεί επίμονα να δεχθεί τον επισκοπικό θρόνο. Ο Σαβίνος επιζητώντας τον μοναχικό βίο αρνιόταν το αξίωμα αυτό. Σε μία στιγμή μεγάλη ψυχολογικής βίας τον παρέσυραν και δέχθηκε το αξίωμα. Ως επίσκοπος μεγαλούργησε στο έργο της φιλανθρωπίας αλλά δεν άντεξε τη φθορά και τις πιέσεις από λαϊκούς και μη που είχε η διοίκηση. Γι' αυτό το λόγο παραιτήθηκε από το επισκοπικό αξίωμα και γύρισε στην ερημική ζωή τού κελιού του. Εκεί έκανε πολλούς ασκητικούς αγώνες και έφτασε σε μεγάλα ύψη αρετής. Ο Θεός τον αξίωσε να θαυματουργεί και θεράπευσε πολλούς συνανθρώπους του από διάφορες σωματικές και ψυχικές αρρώστιες. Αφού και με τη σοφή διδασκαλία του ωφέλησε πολλούς, απεβίωσε ειρηνικά.
