Ο Όσιος Ανατόλιος, κατά κόσμο Αλέξιος Μοϊσέεβιτς Κοπέβ, γεννήθηκε στο χωριό Μπόμπυλι της επαρχίας Καλούγκα της Ρωσίας το 1824 μ.Χ. Το 1832 μ.Χ. παρακολούθησε τα μαθήματα του εκκλησιαστικού σχολείου του Μπορόφσκ και το 1836 μ.Χ. του εκκλησιαστικού σεμιναρίου της Καλούγκα. Το 1853 μ.Χ. αποσύρθηκε, για να μονάσει στην ησυχία και στην σιωπή, στην έρημο της Όπτινα. Ο Όσιος Ανατόλιος κοιμήθηκε με ειρήνη το έτος 1894 μ.Χ.
