Ο ένδοξος μάρτυρας Πέτρος, που ήταν πολύ δυνατός, τόσο στο σώμα, όσο και στην ψυχή και στην πίστη, ομολόγησε με μεγάλο θάρρος τον Χριστό στη νεανική του ηλικία. Ο άρχοντας της Ελευθερούπολης, επειδή δεν μπόρεσε ούτε με κολακείες να αλλάξει τη γνώμη του Πέτρου, ούτε με απειλές να τον φοβίσει, τον έριξε στη φωτιά. Και εκεί ο γενναίος της ευσέβειας αγωνιστής πήρε το στεφάνι του μαρτυρίου.
