Ο Άγιος Πέτρος ήταν γέννημα και θρέμμα της πόλης των Καπιτωλίων (αρχαία πόλη της ανατολικής Ιορδανίας, στο δρόμο για τη Δαμασκό), μεγάλος σοφός και πολύ συνετός. Υπήρξε παντρεμένος με τρία παιδιά και κατόπιν έγινε μοναχός. Τιμήθηκε με το αξίωμα της ιεροσύνης από τον Αρχιερέα της Μητρόπολης Βόστρων (αρχαία πόλη της Συρίας στη Χωράν, 80 χλμ. ανατολικά της λίμνης Γενησαρέτ και 90 χλμ. νότια της Δαμασκού στην οποία δείκνυται ο τάφος του Iώβ). Καταγγέλλεται στον εθνάρχη των Αγαρηνών, ότι είναι διδάσκαλος των Χριστιανών. Επειδή ο Πέτρος και μπροστά στον Αγαρηνό εθνάρχη ομολόγησε με θάρρος την πίστη του, γι' αυτό του κόβουν τα χέρια και τα πόδια. Κατόπιν του βγάζουν τα μάτια, τον σταυρώνουν και στο τέλος τον αποκεφαλίζουν. Το δε μαρτυρικό του σώμα, αφού το έκαψαν στη φωτιά, κατόπιν το έριξαν στο ποτάμι.
