Ὁ Ἅγιος Μάρτυρας Παγχάριος καταγόταν ἀπὸ τὴ Βιθλαπάτη ἢ Βιλλαπάτη καὶ γεννήθηκε ἀπὸ εὐσεβεῖς γονεῖς. Ὅταν ἦλθε στὴ Ρώμη, γνωρίσθηκε καὶ συνδέθηκε φιλικὰ μὲ τὸν αὐτοκράτορα Διοκλητιανὸ (284 – 305 μ.Χ.). Γιὰ τὶς ὑψηλὲς τιμές, τὰ ὁποῖες ἀπολάμβανε, ἀρνήθηκε τὴν πατρώα εὐσέβεια καί, γιὰ νὰ φανεῖ εὐάρεστος στὸν βασιλέα, ἀσπάσθηκε τὴν θρησκεία τῶν εἰδώλων.
