Στοὺς Συναξαριστὲς ἀναφέρεται ὅτι ὁ Ἅγιος Μάρτυς Μαρίνος ἦταν ζηλωτὴς Χριστιανὸς καί, βλέποντας τοὺς Ἐθνικοὺς νὰ προσφέρουν θυσίες στοὺς ψεύτικους θεούς, κατέστρεψε τὸν βωμὸ καὶ καταπάτησε τὰ εἰδωλόθυτα ὀμολογώντας ὅτι εἶναι Χριστιανός. Γιὰ τὸν λόγο αὐτὸ τὸν συνέλαβαν καὶ τὸν κακοποίησαν μὲ πέτρες καὶ ρόπαλα. Τοῦ συνέτριψαν τὰ δόντια καὶ τὸν ἔσυραν ἀπὸ τὶς τρίχες τῆς κεφαλῆς. Στὸ τέλος τὸν παρέδωσαν δεμένο στὸν ἄρχοντα τοῦ τόπου, ὁ ὁποῖος, μετὰ ἀπὸ βασάνους ἀπέκοψε τὴν τίμια κεφαλὴ τοῦ Ἁγίου Μαρίνου.
