Ἡ Ἁγία Μάρτυς Εὐδοκία καταγόταν ἀπὸ τὴν Ἠλιούπολη, τῆς ἐπαρχίας Λιβανησίας Φοινίκης καὶ ἔζησε κατὰ τοὺς χρόνους τοῦ αὐτοκράτορος Τραϊανοῦ (98 – 117 μ.Χ.). Στὸν πρότερό της βίο ζοῦσε ζωὴ ἀκόλαστη μέσα στὰ πάθη καὶ τὴν ἁμαρτία. Ὅμως ἡ Χάρη τοῦ Θεοῦ φώτισε τὴν καρδιά της καὶ μὲ τὶς νουθεσίες κάποιου γέροντος μοναχοῦ, ποὺ ὀνομαζόταν Γερμανός, μετανόησε. Στὴν συνέχεια, ἀφοῦ εἶδε ὀπτασία, προσῆλθε στὸν Ἐπίσκοπο Θεόδοτο καὶ βαπτίσθηκε. Ἡ ὀπτασία ἦταν ἡ ἑξῆς: Παρατηροῦσε Ἄγγελο Θεοῦ νὰ ὁδηγεῖ αὐτὴν πρὸς τὸν οὐρανὸ καὶ ἄλλους Ἀγγέλους νὰ τὴ συγχαίρουν, ἐνῷ τὴν ἴδια στιγμὴ κάποιος μαῦρος οὔρλιαζε καὶ ἔλεγε ὅτι ἀδικεῖται πάρα πολύ, ἐπειδὴ ἡ Εὐδοκία ἔγινε Χριστιανή.
