Ἡ Ἁγία Γενεβιέβη ἐγεννήθηκε, κατὰ τὴν παράδοση, περὶ τὸ 419 μ.Χ. στην πόλη Ναντέρν, ποὺ βρίσκεται κοντὰ στο Παρίσι. Ἀπὸ μικρὴ ἡλικία, μὲ τὴν χάρη τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἐνιωσε στην καρδία της τὴν μοναχικὴ κλήση. Στὴν καλλιέργεια αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἐσωτερικοῦ πόθου, συνετέλεσε καὶ ὁ πνευματικὸς της σύνδεσμος μὲ τὸν Ἅγιο Γερμανὸ τῆς Ὡξέρρης (378 – 448 μ.Χ.).
