Pyhä Filon oli 300-luvulla, jakamattoman kirkon aikaan, Rooman kirkon diakoni ja maineikas sananjulistaja. Rooman valtakuntaa hallitsi lännessä keisari Honorius (395-423) ja idässä hänen veljensä Arkadios (395-408). Keisarien sisar Galla Placidia, jonka mausoleumi sijaitsee Ravennassa - sairastui ja lähetti Filonin hakemaan Kyprokselta pyhää Epifaniosta (muistopv. 12.5.) toivoen häneltä ihmettä.
