Marttyyri Bassa Edessalainen ja hänen poikansa Theognios, Agapios ja Pistos asuivan Makedonian Edessassa 200- ja 300-lukujen vaihteessa. Bassan mies oli pakanapappi, joka ilmiantoi kristityn puolisonsa keisari Maximilian Galeriuksen vainojen aikana vuosina 305-311. Bassa ja hänen poikansa heitettiin vankilaan ja heitä kidutettiin ja useiden epäonnistuneiden tappoyritysten jälkeen heidät lopulta mestattiin. Heidän muistopäivänsä on 21.8.
