Pyhä Paavali Obnoralainen syntyi Moskovassa vuonna 1317. Hän oli Sergei Radonežilaisen oppilas. Vuonna 1414 hän rakensi Pyhän Kolminaisuuden kirkon, jonka ympärille muodostui luostari, joka sai myöhemmin nimen Paavali Obnoralaisen luostari. Paavali toimi tämän luostarin igumenina.
