Karjalan valistajiin kuuluva autuas Afanasi Muromalainen oli Muroman Pyhän Lasaruksen luostarin igumeni 1400-luvun puolivälin tienoilla. Hänestä ei ole saatavilla paljoa tietoa. Se tiedetään, että hänen kuolemansa jälkeen kilvoittelijan ruumis haudattiin erityiseen kappeliin, jossa pyhän kilvoittelukahleita säilytettiin todisteena hänen hengellisistä sankariteoistaan.
