Pyhä Thomas I Konstantinopolin patriarkka
Pyhä Thomas (tai suomeksi Tuomas) oli jo lapsuudestaan asti poikkeuksellisen harras ja viisas. Konstantinopolin patriarkka Johannes IV Paastoaja vihki hänet keisari Maurikioksen aikana (582-602) Konstantinopolin suuren kirkon diakoniksi ja hänestä tuli Hagia Sofian taloudenhoitaja eli sakellarios.

Konstantinopolin patriarkkana Johannes Paastoajaa (Ἰωάννης Δ´ ὁ Νηστευτής, 582-595] seurasi vuonna 595 Kyriakos (Kyrillos) (Κυριακός [Κύριλλος]), 595-606, muistopv. 27.10.) ja pyhän Kyrilloksen kuoleman jälkeen tammikuussa 607 pyhä Thomas, joka liitti arvonimeensä luvun ensimmäinen, Thomas I (Θωμᾶς Α´).

Pyhä Thomas I toimi patriarkkana kolme vuotta, siis vuoteen 610 saakka.Häntä seurasi patriarkan istuimella Sergios I (Σέργιος Α´, 610-638).

Patriarkkana Thomas puolusti tuloksekkaasti ortodoksista uskoa kaikkia harhaoppeja vastaan ja antoi kaikille hyvän esimerkin evankeliumin mukaisesta elämästä. Hänellä oli tiivis hengellinen yhteys pyhään Theodoros Sykenolaiseen, jonka hän pyysi luokseen kuoleman hetkellä maaliskuussa vuonna 610.

Ortodoksinen kirkko muistelee pyhää patriarkka Thomasta (Tuomasta) aina vuosittain hänen omana muistopäivänään maaliskuun 21. päivänä.
