Pyhittäjä Janik Devićilainen (serbiaksi: Јоаникије Девички / Joanikije [myös: Janićije] Devički) syntyi Serbian Zetassa ja jo nuorena rakkaudesta Kristukseen lähti kotoaan Mustanjoen (Black River, Црна Река / Crna Reka) suulla olevalle Ibarin (Ибар) alueella olevaan luolaan, jossa aikaisemmin oli elänyt perimätiedon mukaan pyhä Pietari Korisalainen (serbiaksi: Петар Коришки / Petar Koriskij ). Hänen maineensa alkoi pian levitä ympäristöön ihmisten keskuuteen ja siksi hän pakeni paikalta Drnicaan (Дреница / Drenica / Drenicë) ja piiloutui siellä synkkään Devicin metsään, jossa hän asui vuosia yksinäisyydessä, hiljaisuudessa rukouksessa ja ankarassa kilvoituksessa.
