San Emiliano el Confesor, Obispo de Kyzicus, vivió en el tiempo del reinado del emperador Iconoclasta Leo el Armenio (813-820). El fue llamado con todos los otros obispos a la corte del emperador, quien insistía urgentemente que los obispos se frenaran de venerar los santos iconos. San Emiliano fue el primero en decirle al emperador con toda firmeza que cualquier pregunta sobre la veneración de los santos iconos debe ser discutida y decidida solamente dentro de la Iglesia por sus líderes espirituales, y no por una corte imperial. En el año 815 lo mandaron a la cárcel por la Fe Ortodoxa, donde murió como un confesor.
