Esiquio, originario de Cesárea, en Capadocia, acababa de casarse, cuando Juliano el Apóstata, que iba de paso a Antioquía, se detuvo en aquella ciudad. El emperador se asombró al ver que casi todos los habitantes eran cristianos y montó en cólera cuando le informaron que acababan de destruir el templo de la diosa Fortuna. A todos los que creyó autores de tal acto los condenó a muerte o al exilio. Según el historiador Sozomeno, Esiquio se encontraba entre esos mártires y pereció en el año 362.
