La Santa Marina y la Santa Kira eran hermanas, vivían en el siglo V en la ciudad de Beira en Siria. Menospreciando su noble origen, ellas se alejaron de la ciudad y se instalaron en una cueva, para llevar una vida de monjas. Allí ellas vivieron cerca de 40 años, calladas con un severo ayuno e imparable oración. Para mayor sufrimiento ellas llevaban, bajo sus ropas de monjas, unas pesadas cadenas de ascetas. Solamente una vez ellas dejaron su encierro fue para visitar la tumba del Señor en Jerusalén. Fallecieron en paz cerca del año 450, dejando después de sí una buena memoria de verdaderas devotas.
