Fue enviado por el Patriarca de Constantinopla a Rusia, a petición del gran-príncipe Vladimir, para que bautizara al pueblo pagano y para que estableciera y organizara la Iglesia allí. San Miguel bautizó el pueblo en Kiev, Novgorod, Rostov, y en muchos otros pueblos y aldeas; fijó el orden de la Iglesia; estableció el episcopado y el presbiterado; puso el fundamento del Monasterio de San Miguel en Kiev; y envió misioneros a los búlgaros y tártaros, trayendo a muchos de ellos a Cristo. El santo logró esto y mucho más en sólo cuatro años. Entró en su descanso en paz en el 992 d. C., y sus reliquias se conservan en el Monasterio de las Cuevas de Kiev.
