El santo vivió en el siglo VI d.C., de una gran sabiduría y filantropía, San Metodio en poco tiempo fue elevado a la jerarquía máxima de la Iglesia. El era un teólogo eminente y el primero en negar las escrituras heréticas de Orígenes. Según Jerome y Sócrates el historiador, él era obispo de Olimpo en Lycia, y más tarde, de Nefmático en Fenicia. Aunque fue llamado Obispo de Patara, por su famoso escrito que reflexionaba sobre la resurrección realizado en esa ciudad. El Santo fue martirizado en la ciudad griega de Jalkis en el año 311, bajo Emperador Máximos. Entre sus escritos se destaca Simposio de la diez Vírgenes.
