El Santo nuevo mártir Teófilo y fue criado en Constantinopla. Él era comandante de los ejércitos griegos y de un senador. Durante una época de guerra con los enemigos del imperio bizantino, San Teófilo fue tomado a cautivación. Los árabes le exigieron renunciar a Cristo, pero él seguía siendo fiel a la ortodoxia. San Teófilo fue encarcelado en Chipre, en donde pasó cuatro años, después lo decapitaron en el año 784.
