El Zarevich San Demetrio, asesinado en 15 de mayo de 1591, fue glorificado en el año 1606. La razón de esto fue el deseo, en la expresión del Zar Basilio Shuiski, "parar los labios mentirosos y los ojos ciegos incrédulos de decir que el zarevich había escapado vivo de las manos de los asesinos." Esto se debió a la aparición de un pretendiente, quien se declaró ser el zarevich Demetrio.
