Desde su juventud llevaba una vida santa, poniendo toda su devoción, su corazón en la fe y doctrina de la Iglesia. Fue elegido obispo en los años de los iconoclastas, luego de un tiempo se recluyo con tanta severidad, que llego hasta el punto de privarse incluso del pan. A pesar de todas las penurias, en ningún momento se doblego su creencia. Seguía siendo constante hasta el ultimo momento de su vida, recordando las palabras del Apóstol Pablo “Comparte nuestros sufrimientos, como buen soldado de Jesucristo.” ( 2ª Epístola a Timoteo 2: 3) por lo tanto, padeció como un buen soldado de Jesucristo
