Pasaron muchos siglos y se perdieron los detalles sobre la vida cristiana de santa Antonina. Se sabe solamente que ella vivía en la ciudad de Nicea, región de Bitinia (noreste de la costa en Asia Menor, actualmente Turquía). En el año 302, durante la persecución a los cristianos por el emperador Diocleciano, mártir Antonina fue martirizada por negarse a hacer ofrendas a los ídolos. Después de largos suplicios la pusieron en una bolsa, la que ataron, y la ahogaron en un lago cercano.
