San Timoteo de Símbolo, quien era descendiente de Italianos fue monje desde muy joven. El Santo busco la vida asceta en un monasterio llamado "Símbolo" en Asia Menor cerca del monte Olimpo. En aquellos tiempos, Teoctisto era el archimandrita del monasterio. San Timoteo era discípulo de Teoctisto y también de San Platón del monasterio Studion (5 de abril).
