Hippolytus, der Kerkermeister des Laurentius, wurde nach der Überlieferung von dessen Standhaftigkeit bekehrt und zusammen mit seiner Amme Concordia und 19 Angehörigen seiner Familie unter Kaiser Valerian zum Tode verurteilt. Während man die anderen enthauptete, wurde er selbst an wilde Pferde gebunden und zu Tode geschleift.
